Highland Ultimate Bands Link (hubl) is a good place to browse and click around
here's a slightly random selection, from Glen Urquhart, Inverness and all over the Northern Highlands
Treacherous Orchestra
Including former members of Croft No 5, and a host of other bands, Treacherous' thirteen members are a power house of trad/rock fusion. Peatbog Faeries
Skye's answer to....just about everything, really. Best act at Tartan Heart two years running, sadly not there in 2006 due to European touring commitments, returned triumphantly in 2007 with a set which achieved escape velocity from the first note. Worth travelling long distances to see. The Clach
Fine trad stalwarts. Hootananny regulars. Croft No 5*
Abriachan's finest, from the Acid Croft wing of traditional music. Played the Hall as part of the Highland Festival a few years ago - great night! Now no longer together, sadly. You can still catch John Somerville playing in Box Club, though, and occasionally in the wonderful, eccentrically uncategorisable Babelfish. Adam Sutherland
Brilliant young fiddler from over Loch Ness in Stratherrick, so he's very nearly local. You'll see him in Babelfish, the Peatbog Faeries and Session A9with drummer Iain Copeland, And other projects including Treacherous Orchestra. The Shee
Featuring erstwhile High School fiddle tutor, Olivia Ross, the Shee made a triumphant debut at the Hall in 2007. Six highly talented female musicians including Amy Thatcher who has played two great ceilidhs at the Hall with fellow Newcastle student Chris Meredith. Chris Meredith
Former High school pupil, now at Newcastle on the trad music course. Fiddler and guitarist, Chris' playing just makes you get up and dance. Also in Waxwing and Franana. The Marwicks
A superb ceilidh band who get everyone dancing MeanTime
Another superb band who get everyone dancing, with local connections. Played a fantastic ceilidh dance at the hall in Aug 2007. Jim Terry American saxophonist who played with the Glenn Miller Band in his time, now a Drumnadrochit resident. Inverness Fiddlers Well respected traditional fiddle group
Lush Rollers Folk/country/rock band from Inverness including the wonderful Marc Clement of Blazin Fiddles. Rich basslines. Gorgeous harmonies. Beautiful tasteful guitars. Glorious songs. Sadly no longer around. Blazin' Fiddles For ten years, Bruce Macgregor & co have been making fiddle music exhilarating beyond words. There are few things in life more exciting than a Blazers gig. Hosts of Blazin in Beauly every autumn. Heroes. Coming to the Hall in August 2008! Yay!! Andy Thorburn
A Blazer, a Babelfish, Captain of the Loveboat Big Band, composer, arranger, genius, etcetera. "The ubiquitous keyboard man" - yes, that's him all right. Shutter Bravely purely instrumental Inverness band. Airplay on Radio 1, appearances at Aberdeen's Go North, and a very individual sound. Played in the rain at Belladrum 2007 to a devoted crowd including filmmaker Don Coutts. Cinematics
Dingwall lads now hitting the big time in Glasgow and points South, and played a mean set at Belladrum in Aug 2006. "I Keep Forgetting" is a great tune... Jyrojets (formerly Spindrift)
Acquitted themselves with honours on the Seedlings stage at Belladrum 2006; the first band from Inverness ever to sign a major record deal (but probably not the last). Packed out the tent for their 2007 Belladrum set. Off to Texas for SXSW2008.

Not So Local Musicians
Trashcan Sinatras may hail from the Central Belt, but they've been hanging their washing out up the Drumbuie Hill - roundabout Achtuie, we'd guess.....
* Apologies to anyone who recently clicked the Croft No 5 link and found themselves on an 'adult' site. We've deleted the link now, of course, and thanks for bringing it to our attention.
