Simon Thacker and the Nava Rasa Ensemble: Inner Octaves

Without a doubt, the finest assembly of musicians ever to appear at the hall - if you missed this, you missed the treat of a lifetime. We don't often give standing ovations but the Nava Rasa Ensemble brought the audience to its feet after a programme of astonishing virtuoso playing with warmth and soul.

The renowned Edinburgh Quartet, playing a subordinate role for a change, were having the time of their lives with the unfamiliar rhythms and the requirement at one point to sing. Iain Sandilands' array of percussion instruments was extraordinary, the highlight being the waterphone used in Osborne's piece. But the chance to see and hear two Indian virtuosi, Jyotsna Srikanth and Sarvar Sabri, display the range and intensity of their musical heritage was the crowning glory of the afternoon.

Here's Georgina Coburn's review of their Friday night show at the One Touch Theatre, Eden Court, on Hi Arts, with programme details.
